Let the Hunt begin…
Blending in with her college co-eds proves difficult for vampire Hunter, Emma Martin, considering the mystical tattoo on her wrist glows whenever Vamps are near. And after three months of silence, the glow is back with a vengeance.
Jake Cunningham witnesses Emma, a violet-eyed beauty, using unimaginable powers to fight off a fanged creature. Finally, after two years of searching, he may have found out what he’s become—a Hunter, like Emma.
Thankful for an ally in the fight against the Vamps, Emma finds hope and comfort in Jake’s arms. As she learns more about her new love’s family and its dark heritage, she may be forced not only to hunt them but to sacrifice her life to save Jake’s soul.

***Spoilers Ahead***
While Emma Martin was with her best friend, Ava, they were attacked by three vampires. Emma’s mark from her wrist, her Vamp detector, started to glow a freaky orange lighthouse beam and she knew they were back. She hasn’t killed one in over three months and now there were attacking in a group of three.
Lynn Rush has written an interesting twist into her story, it’s the first time a vampire hunter can summon her weapons. I love that idea … if you are going to write about vampires and vampire hunters, why not about summoning weapons too?
She held up her free hand, and whispered, “Crossbow.” In a flash of white light, the steel weapon appeared in her palm. She stroked the smooth, otherworldly, silver metal, confirming the magazine of bolts was secure and ready to fire.
Emma Martin is a Hunter. She never eats, drinks, or has other needs a human has. She doesn’t need sleep. She has supernatural strength, the Vamp detector mark and she can do the mind-wipe thing. The instant healing wasn’t possible, although she healed faster than most.
Two years ago, strange thinks started to happen to Jake Cunningham; he changed three different colleges in two years, but he knows that this one is the last. He goes with his friend, Dylan, and his girlfriend, Cynthia, and sees her … sees Emma; and she takes his breath away. Yet, there are three more vampires to fight and Jake sees her fighting them.
They soon discover that they are similar. Two years ago they were changed and their marks, tattoos, appeared over the night. Jake has the Mark of Chaos and Emma the Mark of Apollo and Artemis. They talk about what they have in common: Jake doesn’t need to eat, drink or sleep, either. But there are differences between them, too.
“They were once brown. Along with the ink on my wrist, I woke up with new eyes. Not just a new color, either. Better vision. You?”
“Mine were once brown. But they went black. Can’t see better, though. And my ink…mine’s pretty different than yours.”
Jake has impenetrable skin while Emma can do mind-wiping. And they have another thing in common, their transformation happened at the same time. But Emma’s happening when her family had an accident and only she had survived. Gabriel, a janitor at the hospital, took care of her and helped her discover more about her strange powers before he was drained by a pack of vampires.
Emma starts to train Jake and they have to check the documents Gabriel left her about the Hunters. Several days later, Emma is attacked by a group of vamps, and Jake saves her. However, Jake is starting to have weird flashes.
Cynthia is trying to translate some of their documents, but Emma discovers its translation, made by Gabriel.
The Hunter must vanquish those who reject Love. Those marked for darkness must choose the Light or lose their souls to the deceiver for all eternity. The Avenos family will return to their heritage with their prophesied son groomed for leadership. The three will reclaim the night, allowing darkness to rule once again beneath their watchful eyes.
Jake transforms into a vampire… and when he will turn twenty-five, the transformation will be complete and they will be enemies. He is the son of the Avenos family, who have been formed by vampires. Gabriel gives Emma enough faith that she could save him … it seems that Gabriel turned into an angel after his death.
Cynthia had organized a birthday party for Jake and Emma, but she and Dylan were working with his parents. His parents and their vampires are going to feast from the humans invited to the party after Jake’s transformation. Yet Jake, with Emma’s help, chose love instead of darkness and his mark changed, along with the color of his eyes. He turns into a Hunter, but no longer having impenetrable skin. They fight the vampires, but his parents run away.
When they kidnap Ava, Emma and Jake have to fight Jake’s parents to save her and Gabriel helps again.
First of all, this is the first book of the Violet Night series… and I can’t wait to read more. We have some cliché ideas mixed with some new ones, turning this book in a very interesting read. I will let you discover its magic by yourselves. 5 couples.
