When Hype Lives Up to Promise ft The Savage Song @TitanBooks @newsouthbook

I must admit, I don’t always follow the trends  and read into the hype . Sometimes I  rather find something that is undiscovered . A rough gem that needs to find an audience or a tried and tested author  that I love  who is deserving  of the hype surrounding them.

The hype is a two-faced coin.  Not everyone has the same tastes and  for that reason I never saw myself getting into Twilight or The Hunger Games.  I didn’t need a reason to discover my love for reading with those books.  I just saw them as the dystopia that brought the genre to life  and another vampire series . There was nothing calling me to them despite the hype surrounding them .

It was a case isn’t for me.

It maybe a decision that I sometimes regret but I have only so many hours in day to read . The other side hype of is something that I want to explore and read books like harry potter and  six of crows.  Even so  the other side of hype is one that I don’t always trust.  Hype is a marketing game and subjective. Even if it is well deserving, will I love it ?

There been great amazing books  authors that I have missed in my decision  and Schwab is one of them.  From the moment she hit the scene,  I have heard praise after praise for her books from bloggers I trusted. (Sorry friends)  I even caved and got A Gathering of Shadows  (AGOS) but still it remained unread.  Then I caved again and got  This Savage Song (TSS) from the publisher. Yet it sat there calling me for a month until  I decided it was now or never.

The premises of TSS is something different and intriguing.  Monsters are stuff of legends.  Classics. We know the stories and   honestly it a tried and tested concept.  CHUCK that aside, the hype is valid.   Schwab’s tale is something unique and different.  Words that are hard to say when everyday  there are new books coming out and the market is only getting bigger. TSS is a rare book where the characters and setting over take the plot and make it what it is.

This why the hype is there

This is different and engrossing type of tale. Schwab is different  and worthy of all the  hype  The reason why people say that she a master at what she does and this won’t be my last book. I’m already planning to devour the rest of books I want to read of her’s .

I’m hooked.

The Savage Song is the tale of two feuding families  in a world that could only describe mafia meets  superhero’s  world. They are fighting against each other  trying to get one up on each  other in a never-ending war and the bad guys aka the monsters have free run on everything else.  But that only the beginning to this hyped story. The game changed is that the humans aren’t all they say to be and that why it is hyped. Human mashed with monsters. UM GIVE ME MORE

I want the quirky. Schwab had sucked me in  and I didn’t want to end  and that where the hype  is deserved.  It’s what got me sucked.

Sshe chose her leads perfectly Kate Harker and August Flynn two teenagers from each of the respective families would easily give into  the Romeo  and Juliet  train but she didn’t . There is no romance in this book. It about the characters and their lives. Running after these monsters and  trying to stay alive and fight another day. They aren’t just ordinary people. They are complex and with unique problems. Their POV’s paint two different pictures and this entwined was genius.

Did I care there was no romance. NOPE,  this what I want fantasies.  I want to be engrossed in a tale that carries on the strength of these characters and the monsters. I wanted  intense ya books. Schwab gets what readers crave and her characters are a result of this .    Kate the girl who tries to gain attention by being bad but wishes for a different life and August  well I leave you to discover him but he is worth the praise.

The hype says this isn’t even the best book of her’s . That  her adult books are even better. But  do I give into the hype after a book like this or do I remain cautious even if the hype lives up to the promise.

That a question for another day. For now I plan to still be cautious and still be wary  . Schwab taught me a lesson.  But there still going to be those books out there worthy of the praise  that I should read but I haven’t not for no good reason.

I should embrace hype and take me where it goes.

Don’t’ hold back and discover the magic of Schwab. Don’t be me and stay away from the hype. Read for yourself. Hype may be a two-sided coin.  But there is a reason why it is .  Surround yourself with people who  you can trust  their judgment and go with the hype when they say so. You will never regret and  then you can join in the fan fest for book. TSS is worthy of all this and more . This is definitely a case where hype does live up to the promise

Have you a book that all your friends seemed to love and hype about but you don’t want to read? Or scared to be only one who hate it ?

There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.

Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.goodreads
